A New Era for Nanobiotech Research at SUST: Welcome to the BioNanoSense Laboratory

Exciting developments are underway at the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (GEB) at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). This month marks a significant milestone in our research capabilities with the inauguration of the brand-new BioNanoSense Laboratory and the launch of specialized training programs designed to push the boundaries of our academic initiatives.

These advancements are proudly organized under the HEAT Sub-Project (PIN: 13401), driven by the comprehensive project: "Rolling Circle Amplification-based Low-Cost, Simple, Rapid Nucleic Acid Testing of Infectious Diseases Targeting Self-Diagnosis and Smartphone-Based Test Readout and Evidence-Based Outbreak Surveillance."

Event Highlights & Inauguration Schedule

We are honored to have the inauguration ceremony led by our Chief Guest, Professor Dr. Md. Khairul Islam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of SUST. The occasion will also be graced by Special Guests Professor Dr. Md. Shajedul Karim (Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor) and Professor Dr. Md. Ismail Hossain (Honorable Treasurer).

  • Training Programs Inauguration: June 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM
  • BioNanoSense Laboratory Inauguration: June 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM

The events are spearheaded by Prof. Dr. Gokul Chandra Biswas (Sub-Project Manager) and Prof. Dr. Md. Kamrul Islam (Head of the GEB Department).

Upcoming Training Programs

As part of this initiative, the department is hosting two intensive training sessions for M.S. Students and Faculty Members:

1. Training on Bioinformatics Tools (June 23, 2026)

Led by G. M. Nurnabi Azad Jewel, Assistant Professor, this session is a prime opportunity for researchers to refine their computational methodologies and explore powerful algorithms. This training will provide the critical foundations needed for advanced genomic data analysis.

2. Hands-on Training on Paper Analytical Devices Design, Fabrication, and Assay (June 27, 2026)

Following the bioinformatics sessions, participants will have the chance to engage in hands-on fabrication and assay design, directly aligning with the project's goals of developing rapid, low-cost diagnostic testing.

(For registration details regarding the second training, please contact the HEAT Sub-Project office, Room: 222/B).
