Can masking tape save lives? See how BioNanoSense Lab is changing diagnostics.

Researchers at the Biswas BioNanoSense Laboratory, based at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), have announced a breakthrough in affordable medical diagnostics that could revolutionize how doctors treat infections in resource-limited settings. The team, led by Professor Gokul Chandra Biswas, has successfully developed a paper-strip device embedded in ordinary masking tape. This innovative tool allows for fast, length-based colorimetric testing to determine antibiotic susceptibility. Unlike traditional laboratory methods that require expensive equipment and days of waiting, this "lab-on-a-tape" can provide results rapidly and at a fraction of the cost.

“Precision is not merely a measurement; it is an aesthetic philosophy.”

At our laboratory, we explore the intersection of nanotechnology and biotechnology. The structures we build at the nano-scale possess a geometry so counterintuitive, so unlike anything in nature, that they redefine the very concept of engineering.
