Sheldon Cooper
Biography
Sheldon Lee Cooper, Ph.D., Sc.D., is the iconic, brilliant, and socially eccentric theoretical physicist from the hit sitcoms The Big Bang Theory and its prequel, Young Sheldon. Known for his genius-level IQ of 187, his lack of social skills, and his catchphrase "Bazinga!", he is portrayed by Jim Parsons as an adult and Iain Armitage as a child.
- Early Life: Born in Galveston, Texas, Sheldon was a child prodigy who entered college at age 11 and earned his Ph.D. by 16. He was raised by his devoutly religious mother, Mary, and his football coach father, George Sr., alongside his twin sister Missy and older brother Georgie.
- Career: He works as a senior theoretical physicist at Caltech, specializing in string theory and later winning the Nobel Prize in Physics alongside his wife, Amy Farrah Fowler, for their work on Super Asymmetry.
- Personality: Sheldon is characterized by a strict adherence to routine (such as "The Roommate Agreement"), an extreme fear of germs, and difficulty understanding sarcasm and irony. His behavior is often seen as consistent with Asperger's syndrome, though the show's creators have stated he was not written with a specific diagnosis.
Key Relationships and Interests
- Friends: His closest friends include his long-time roommate Leonard Hofstadter, Howard Wolowitz, and Raj Koothrappali.
- Romance: After years of being perceived as asexual, he enters a relationship with neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler. They eventually marry and, as revealed in the Young Sheldon finale, have a son named Leonard and a daughter.
- Geek Culture: He is a massive fan of Star Trek (especially Spock), Star Wars, comic books, and trains
